Saefong, MarketWatch New gold ETF lets you swap shares for bars The Merk Gold Trust is a precious metals fund with a unique twist: Even small-time investors can exchange their shares for physical bullion. A new gold-backed exchange-traded fund that launched last week boasts a unique characteristic: Individual investors can take delivery of physical gold — in small bars or coins — in exchange for shares of the Merk Gold Trust ( OUNZ ). The Trust, at first, seems similar to other exchange-traded funds that hold gold bullion in the form of bars — most notably the world’s largest gold-backed ETF, the SPDR Gold Trust ( GLD ). But Merk Investments refers to its offering as a “deliverable gold ETF” and is betting that it’s filling a previously unmet need. Back up the truck “The most important differentiating factor of OUNZ compared to other products is that investors may request delivery of their gold,” Axel Merk, manager of Merk Funds and chief investment officer of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Merk Investments, told MarketWatch in a phone interview. They can take delivery of London Bars, gold bricks that are traded by central banks and large institutions, but they can also choose to have the gold exchanged into other gold coins or bars, he said.

Done Tech ETF Computes a New High By ETFtrends.com 10 hours ago 0 shares Content preferences Done For all the talk of an Internet and social media bubble and its imminent bursting, some technology sector exchange traded funds are, almost anonymously, delivering new highs to investors. In about as quiet fashion as a $12.3 billion ETF can operate, the Technology Select Sector SPDR ( XLK ) made a new 52-week high Thursday and followed up with another new high Friday. XLK, the second-largest sector ETF by assets behind the Financial Select Sector SPDR ( XLF ) , has been a beacon of durability and steadiness this year as investors have punished nearly anything with the Internet, momentum or social media labels. [High Quality Over Momentum ETFs] Up 4.6% year-to-date, XLK has not packed much in the way of excitement, but that has proven to be an advantage. As investors have become leery of the frothy valuations on once beloved Internet and social media offerings, XLKs comparatively bland (and inexpensive) lineup has firmed.

IEV adds a well-diversified flavor to a portfolio and is exposed to companies from the entire spectrum of market capitalization levels, but with a heavy bias to large cap stocks. From an individual holdings point of view, the assets of the fund are very well spread out. It does a great job in holding just a mere 19.4% in its top 10 holdings considering the fact that it holds 356 securities in total. Nestle, Novartis this site and Roche Holdings are the top three holdings of the fund, each having an allocation between 2.2% and 2.8%. As far as sector holdings are concerned, it relies heavily on Financials, followed by Consumer Staples, Healthcare, Industrials and Energy, each with double-digit exposure. All these sectors combined account for more than half of the fund assets.
